Solar Flares was made from sounds produced by trumpet and effects with further processing and arrangement on the computer.

I've always been interested in sound that fills, echoes, reflects, and repeats. This instinct has led me to a lot of musical places, but only recently have I had the drive or self confidence to begin working on my musical language in a solo setting. Once I started, Solar Flares was produced quite quickly, in around 9 months. This album, my first, represents an artistic turning point, a period of realisation and action.

For me it's important to reference some of the soundworlds that have informed this album. Discovering Chihei Hatakeyama's music in 2019 has been a huge part of my recent development. Arve Henriksen, Phil Slater, Burial, Tim Hecker, Sunn O))), György Ligeti, Lawrence English and WG Sebald have all been with me for longer but are no less significant.

On a more personal note, Solar Flares would not have been made without formative musical experiences with Forenzics (Matt Syres and Dirk Kruithof), The Splinter Orchestra, and through the early mentorship of Phil Slater.

It really speaks for itself, it's mesmerising, pensive, and words won't do it justice, but here I am. Open eyes, open mind, open heart, open to the world. Like series of doors opening... The communication between members shown here is absolutely masterful, and its patient pace lends to its mesmerising sound. Worth every second of listening. I forget, and then remember, that I'm listening to Jazz, reminded by the improvisational fine detail of each member listening and responding to the other... aurals
